Introduction

Central Material Testing Laboratory (CMTL) is the only laboratory in Pakistan which provides State of the Art testing facilities at public sector level. The main objective of the Laboratory is to provide comprehensive testing facilities for WAPDA’s development projects and to achieve self-sufficiency in investigation and testing. Successful operations and maintenance of these works require geotechnical investigations, field testing and laboratory testing of construction materials under simulated field conditions.
The effective functioning of CMTL is quite vital as WAPDA is continuously pursuing the water and power resources development in Pakistan. Presently investigations and material testing of various fast track projects like Mohmand Dam Hydropower, Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu HPP, KurramTangi Dam etc. are underway at CMTL.
The total Income of CMTL during FY 2019-20 (through Laboratory Testing& Deposit Works) is Rs.118.725 million.

Building

CMTL is housed in its own building complex. It is constructed over an area 72 kanals in WAPDA Employees Coop. Housing Society, phase-II and its covered area is 42570 Sqft, out of which 11780 Sqft & 1850 Sqft had been handed over to the Director General IWASRI and Project Director H & R for establishment of their offices respectively.
